April 11, 2008 – Espace Fraternité, Aubervilliers
One of the earliest influences on hip-hop, the Last Poets first came together in 1968, combining spoken-word verses with African-inspired drum beats to take on American cultural issues such as civil rights and the Vietnam war. Friday night, the group of activist poets reunited in Paris for their 40th anniversary as part of the Banlieues Bleues Festival. True to form, they performed a set of politically charged poems including This is Madness and Americans are Terrorists.
